Offutt died yesterday, at his home on Offutt's on the Ohio branch of the E.T., Va. & Ga. Railroad, after a brief illness from cholera morbus. He was only taken ill Monday. The sad announcement made in this notice, which was conveyed to the city by telegraph, caused a feeling of gloom and sadness to settle on the numerous friends of Col. Offutt, in Knoxville, where he was so well and favorably known. He has been for years one of the best known and most successful railroad contractors in this section and fulfilled extensive contracts upon all roads constructed within his reach within the past few years. At the time of his death he was agent for the railroad company at his station. He was a frequent visitor to our city, having been here and registered at the Atkin House only a few days since. Mr. F. W. Robinson and W. A. Kirkpatrick came in on the local freight last night for a casket and will return this morning on the 7:30 freight. The funeral wil take place at 1 o'clock p.m. to-day. Any friends desiring to attend the funeral can go out on the 7:30 freight and return this evening on the local freight. Accomodations will be provided."
