     Otho Offutt Sr. was born on April 11, 1829 at Fayette County, KY, USA.3,4,5,6 He was born on February 12, 1831 at Fayette County, KY, USA.7,8,9,10 He immigrated in 1843 to Platte County, MO, USA.11 He began military service circa 1861 at 9th Battalion MO Sharpshooters, Company A.12 He began military service on July 2, 1862 at Fort Smith, Sebastian County, AR, USA, when he enlisted as a private in the 35th Arkansas Infantry Regiment, C.S.A.13 He ended military service circa May, 1865; when he appears on the surrender rolls for MO Confederates at Shreveport and New Orleans.14 He married Sallie Asenath Settle, daughter of John J. Settle and Achsah Miller, on December 12, 1866 at Platte County, MO, USA.15,16,17 Otho Offutt Sr. and Sallie Asenath Settle appeared on the Federal Census of June 12, 1880 at Pettis Township, Platte County, MO, USA. "Mrs. Sophronia Offutt, one of Midway's oldest and best loved women, died yesterday afternoon at her home on South Winter street, this city, after a brief illness... She was nearly 80 years old and a native of Scott County... She leaves two sons to mourn her loss, viz: Manly D., who holds a responsible position with the Citizens Bank, of this city, and Albert, a successful businessman of Corbin. Her funeral will take place at the Presbyterian Church, of which she was a devoted member, on Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, the services being conducted by her pastor, the Rev. J. W. Tyler. Burial in the Midway cemetery.

Miss Wilson was engaged to Robert nunnelly, of Georgetown, and a few weeks ago Mr. Nunnelly sent his best man, Mr. Offutt, over to arrange the preliminaries of the marriage, which was to take place on Thursday, the 18th inst. It did not take long for Miss Wilson to find out that she liked the groomsman better then the bridegroom, and eloped with Mr. Offutt; went to Lexington accompanied by her sister and brother, and was married at the Phoenix Hotel. The happy couple returned yesterday evening to her home at Cane Ridge, where they were tendered an elegant reception by the bride's father, Dr. H. Wilson."
