Joyce Mae Offutt, 71, passed away at home on Jan. 6, 2008, surrounded by those who loved her most after a long and brave battle with cancer. Born Joyce Mae Ballweg on April 15, 1936 in Gordon Township, N.D., the third of four children, Joyce moved to Seattle, Wash. in 1956, where she was employed as a telephone operator as well as a window display designer, while still finding time to help the needy and other various volunteer activities through her church.
She later met and married Jerry Offutt in 1963. They then moved to Napa in 1967, where she continued her volunteer work and proudly served as a regular member on the county election board. Joyce brightened the lives of those around her as a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and friend. Joyce’s joys in life were simple ones, a good card game, the feel of the sun on her face, trips to the beach, shopping and lunch, her garden and home, travel, and various arts and crafts projects. Joyce was happiest when surrounded by family and close friends, especially at the holidays.
She is preceded in her passing by her mother, Lydia Ballweg; her brother, Vern Ballweg; and her dear friends, Ethel “Pudgy” Iverson and Millie George. She leaves behind many who will miss her dearly, including her husband of 44 wonderful years, Jerry; (Clipped).
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the friends and neighbors who showed care and concern for Joyce. A special thanks to Tammy George and Janet Boyle for all that you did.
