"Mrs. Cheney Is Married to Mr. Offutt - Small Reception Held After Ceremony and Couple Leave on Trip to New York - Mrs. Mary Alice Cheney and Mr. James William Offutt were married yesterday at 3:30 o'clock at the home of the former, 1633 Westmoreland Place, and left immediately afterward for New York, where they will remain three weeks. Rev. James K. Thompson of First Presbyterian Church read the ceremony in the presence of only a small group of relatives of the couple, and employes of Cheney's. The couple stood before the mantel, which was banked with palms and ferns, with fan-shaped bouquet of calla lilies marking the center. Flanking the altar, wrought iron candelabra held white tapers. Mrs. Vincent O'Connor of Dallas, playing her own accompaniment, sang "O Promise Me." The 9 and 10-year-old daughters of the bride, Betty and Virginia Cheney, entered immediately after the minister and took their places. one at each side of the altar. The children wore pink and blue taffeta frocks, made on old-fashioned lines with long skirts and puffed sleeves. Each girl wore a single gardenia at her neckline, and a bandeaux of dwarf gardenias on her head. The bride wore a spectator sports ensemble of gray hammered satin, worn with a matching turban touched with a cluster of purple and lavender flowers. She wore purple satin sandals, and a shoulder bouquet of purple orchids. After the wedding a small reception was held, with refreshment served from a table laid with filet lace and lighted by green tapers in silver holders. The centerpiece was a bowl of white chrysanthemums and baby's breath on a reflector, which was surrounded by hothouse smilax. Out-of-town wedding guests included Mrs. A. W. Harville of Little Rock, sister of the bride, and Mr. and Mrs. C. Y. Walton of Cleburne. Mr. Walton is a brother of the bride. Mrs. O'Connor, who sang the prenuptial solo, is a cousin of the bridegroom. Mr. and Mrs. Offutt will make their home at 1633 Westmoreland Place on their return from New York. Her going-away costume was gray chinchilla coat, worn with green chapeau and black accessories, d a gown of black and green."

GARD DIES. - Gall Stones and Heart Trouble Cause Death of Old Settler. - Solomon Thornton Gard, who had been a resident of St. Joseph county for 63 years, died early Wednesday morning at his home, five miles northeast of North Liberty. Gall stones and dilation of the heart caused his death. Mr. Gard is survived by four children: John, of Lakeville, Ind; Benjamin and Charles of North Liberty, and Mary Ellen, at home: a sister, Mrs. Asbury Rose, of Berrien Springs, Mich., and a brother, Samuel, of Greene township. Funeral services will be held at 11 o'clock Friday morning at the Oak Grove church of the Brethren, Rev. James Kessler, officiating. Burial will take place at the Sumption Prairie cemetery. Mr. Gard moved to St. Joseph county with his parents when he was 12 years of age, having formerly resided in Virginia." Based on this being printed in the Thursday edition and having stated in it that Solomon died Wednesday one would conclude that he died on the 14th. However that doesn't match his death certificate and I've removed the 14th as a date.

Since this conflicts with the death certificate in regards to the date of burial I have removed December 16, 1916, as the death certificate is an official document.
