McCune was born in 1835.3 He began military service on August 31, 1861 at USAG when he enlisted as a 1st Sergeant in the 100th PA Infantry, Company E.4,5 He married Martha Offutt, daughter of John Offutt and Margaret Patterson, on February 22, 1864 at Plain Grove Township, Lawrence County, PA, USAG.6,7 James D. McCune was wounded in action on May 12, 1864 at Spotsylvania, VA, USAG.5,8 He died of wounds on May 13, 1864 at 1st Division, 9th Army Corps Field Hospital, VA, USA.9,5,10,11 He was buried after May 13, 1864 at Fredericksburg National Cemetery, Fredericksburg, VA, USAG.12

He left one son. In reading the biography I saw no mention of a son. It appeared that Thomas and his first wife had three daughters, of whom two survived. The only son mentioned was the son of James D. McCune and Martha (nee Offutt) McCune name James David McCune. I have removed the son Martin. The biography also mentioned that the second marriage took place some time after September 23, 1879 when Mr. Martin's first wife died.
