CYNTHIANA, Ky.. Dec. 21 - James Howard Offutt, retired farmer, died this morning at 2 o'clock at his home at Leesburg after an illness of several months. He was born at Leesburg September 28, 1863, and was the son of the late Nathaniel and Amelia Porter Offutt. His first marriage was to Miss Jeanie Shropshire and his second marriage was to Mrs. Mary Alice Barkley, who survives. His surviving children by his first marriage are: Mrs. Forest Thompson, Claysville; Mrs. Earl Anderson, Leesburg, and Earl Offutt, Covington. and a surviving sister is Mrs. Lou Switzer, Los Angeles, Cal. Mr. Offutt was a member of the Leesburg Christian church. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10:30 o'clock at the residence, the Rev. Wyatt Montgomery, pastor of the Leesburg church. officiating. Burial will be at Jacksonville cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joe Brock, A. C. Webb, Dr. H. C. Blount, Harold Shropshire, Vesta Allen and Ray Paul. Honorary pallbearers will be C. H. Paul. Harvey Shropshire, Joe Offutt, Rolla Van Hook, Walter Switzer and Stewart Shropshire."

Offutt, who conducted a furniture store in Market street for a number of years, passed away this morning at his home, 315 High street. He was 63 years of age, and leaves a wife and one daughter, Mrs. John L. Robertson. He was one of Lowell's representative business men. The deceased was born in Southampton, N. H., Feb. 7, 1838, and is descended from English ancestors. He received his early education in the public schools of this city until he reached the age of 17 years, when he went to work for his father in the furniture business in Prescott street. After working there twelve years, he went to work for P. Noyes, with whom he remained for five years. Upon leaving, he joined in partnership with George W. Fairgraves, on Market street, and afterwards with David Whittaker, with whom he continued for twenty-five years, until June 1895, when he dissolved partnership and joined with Edwin E. Pierce of Greenfield, in organizing the firm of Offutt and Pierce. He was a republican in politics and a regular attendant at the First Baptist church. He was a member of Mechanics Lodge, I. O. O. F., Monomake Encampment. Patriarchs Militant, Ancient York Lodge, F. M., Passaronaway Tribe I. O. R. M. Veteran Fireman's association B. P. O. Elks, Old Residents Association, Puritan Chapter, O. E. S., Lexington council U. A. M."

(sic) Offutt This Afternoon - The funeral of the late George Offutt took place yesterday afternoon at two o'clock from his late residence, 315 High street, and was largely attended by relatives and friends of the deceased, both from this city and out of town. Delegations were also present from the following organizations of which the deceased was a member; Mechanics lodge, I. O. O. F., Monomake encampment, Patriarchs Militant, Ancient York lodge, F. M, Passaconnway tribe, I. O. R. M., Veteran Firemen's association, B. P. O, Elks, Old Residents' association, Puritan Chapter, O. E. S., Lexington council, U. A. M. Impressive services were conducted at the house, Rev. Mr. Craig officiating. During the service appropriate selections were rendered by the Apollo quartet. The bearers were Messrs. Edwin Bickford, Joseph Hick, William Hardy, Warren Gritlan, James Murkland and Nathaniel Bishop. The interment was in the Edson cemetery where the service of the Odd Fellows was held.
