    Burland, admltted to the Connecticut Bar in 1918, after being graduated from Georgetown, enlisted in the U. S. Navy that year. Later, he returned to New Haven, where he was connected with the claim department of the Travelers Insurance Company, a post he held until 1929 when he resigned to devote himself to his private practice. He had also served as corporation counsel for the city at one time.

    He leaves his wife, the former Marie Loretta Offutt of Poolesville, MD., five daughters and one son."

    Born and raised in New Haven, she studied dental hygiene at the University of Pennsylvania. She was the wife of the late Frederick P. Keach DMD, a second-generation dentist in Salem.
    Mrs. Keach was a volunteer and member of several organizations, including the Red Hat Society and the Junior Aid Society. She was also a bridge player.
    She leaves her son, Frederick P. Keach III of Worcester; three daughters, Sharon Sprecher of Colorado, Linda Schimoler of Stratham, N.H., and Peggie Lee Baker of Duxbury; her brother, William Burland of North Haven, Conn.; a sister, Loretta Tallon of Belmont; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several niece and nephews. A funeral Mass was said Dec. 27 in Peabody."

    His greatest joy were his 10 grandchildren, Kelly, William, Katie, Thomas, Catherine, John, Elizabeth, Helen, Patrick, Christina and his great-granddaughter, Ava Goldenberg. He was predeceased by his parents William Henry Burland Jr. and Maria Loretta Offutt, his sisters Margaret Keach, Mary Auray, Ann Nagel, and his grandson, William Henry Burland V. He is survived by his wife, Mary Alice Burland; his sister, Marie Loretta Tallon; and his three sons, William H. Burland, IV, and his wife Lisa, Thomas Burland and his wife Helen, and Brian Burland and his wife Johanna.

    A funeral Mass was celebrated July 12 at St. Barnabas Church. Interment was in All Saints Cemetery. The North Haven Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
