He started a family and settled down in Liberty. Billy took pride in his service to the community with the VFW, Masonic Lodge, and as a church member of Heights Baptist Church. His presence filled any room he was in, just as his wit and charm left impressions on everyone who knew him. Billy was preceded in death by his parents; son Jonathon Craven Offutt; brothers Hughie Leonard Offutt and Edward Olson Offutt. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his partner and love, Theresa Cain; sons Larry Wayne Offutt and wife April, William Joseph Offutt and wife Keely; sister Marjorie Graham; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A graveside service with military honors will be held 11 AM on Friday, August 6, 2021 at Fairlawn Cemetery in Liberty with visitation an hour prior. Offutt and Elizabeth Offutt appeared on the Federal Census of September 23, 1850 at Grant County, KY, USA.4 Thomas W. Offutt and Elizabeth Offutt appeared on the Federal Census of August 4, 1860 at Hanover Township, Shelby County, IN, USA; in this household are a James Offitt, age 22 born in KY and a Joseph Offitt, age 18 born in KY that I do not as yet have attached/identified.5 According to the obituary of Thomas M. Offutt 8 brothers and sisters preceeded him in death, with Sabert S. Offutt still living. So if the obituary is correct there should be a total of 9 children to this family. The obituary for William Offutt states that were 10 chidlren, listing as survivors brothers T. M. Offutt, Rev. S. S. Offutt and John S. Offutt, as well as sisters Mrs. James Hollett and Mrs. Mary Bursott on July 13, 1944.6,7

Mr. Offutt was taken ill last Saturday with a cold, which developed into pneumonia. His death coming as it did, was a great shock to his family and a large circle of friends. Mr. Offutt had been a resident of this city for the past thirty-five years and was a highly respected citizen. He was one of a family of ten children. The last death in the family occurred ten years ago yesterday at which time his brother died. Besides ·a widow he is survived by three daughters and one son. Mrs. Edna Dagler, the Misses Arleigh and Rema. and Paul; also three brothers, the Rev. S. S. Offutt, John Offutt of Linton. T. M. Offutt of this city, and two sisters, Mrs. James Hollett and Mrs. Mary Bursott. The funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at one-thirty o'clock at the residence. Burial will take place in East Hill cemetery."

     Joe Douglas Offutt was born on November 17, 1932 at Georgetown, Scott County, KY, USA.1,2,3 He began military service on May 23, 1949 at U.S. Army.4,2 He participated the September 15, 1950 invasion of Inchon, South Korea as a member of the U.S. Army.2 As of December 18, 1968, Joe Douglas Offutt was also known as Master Sergeant Joe D. Offutt.5 He was a member of the military on December 18, 1968, serving with at U.S. Army, South Vietnam.5 As of 1980, Joe Douglas Offutt was also known as Command Sergeant Major Joe D. Offutt.2 He ended military service in 1980 at U.S. Army.2 He died on October 9, 2016 at age 83.2 He was buried on October 14, 2016 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, El Paso, El Paso County, TX, USA.6

Offutt enlisted in the Army on May 23, 1949 and achieved the rank of Command Sergeant Major. Extremely proud of his Army Career, a tanker All the Way, leader, instructor, mentor of subordinates and peers alike he was the epitome of the “American Soldier”. He participated in the Inchon Invasion in Korea in 1950, served in Vietnam in 1968 and 1969, overseas in Baumholder and Gelnhausen, Germany. After his assignment at Fort Bliss, Texas, USASMA assisting in the organization of the Academy, he served as a faculty member for the First Class. Returning to Germany in 1973, he was assigned to the U S Command Berlin, Berlin Brigade assuming the duties of the CSM in 1976. He was selected by DA to remain on active duty for 35 years. In 1979 he was reassigned to Fort Devens, MA where he retired in 1980. Arrangements under the direction of Martin Funeral Home, El Paso, TX."
