Born Oct. 26 1915, in Poolesville Md., he was a son of the late John B. and Marie J. Offutt. He was a farmer, breeder, trainer and driver of Standardbred horses. He was a member of St. Timothy's Catholic Church, Walkersville. He was also a member of the Cloverleaf Association and was a past member of the South Mountain Rangers Riding Club. Surviving are four sons Roland A. Offutt of Gettysburg and Bernard L. Offutt Jr., John B. Offutt and Joseph M. Offutt all of Woodsboro; two daughters, Marie E. Allen of Jefferson and Carol A. Sorensen of Alexandria, Va.; 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and two brothers, W. Jerome Offutt and Linwood T. Offutt of Frederick; and two sisters. Marguerite Moxley of Libertytown and Mary V. Kuzas of Frederick. He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel L. Offutt; a sister, Rosalie Mullineaux: and two brothers, John B. Offutt II and Eugene J. Offutt. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Timothy's Roman Catholic Church, 8651 Biggs Ford Road, Walkersville, Md. The Rev. Richard Murphy will be the celebrant. Interment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Woodsboro. Md. Mr. Offutt had been a farmer in Martinsburg for the last several years. He was born on a farm in the Poolesville area, and at one time operated a bar in Gaithersburg. Later he ran a store and bar in White Plains, MD. He lived with his wife, the former Catherine Slicer; three sons, Clarence III, John C. and William E., all of Martinsburg; a daughter, Mrs. John Willett of White Plains, a brother L. Jerome of Barnesville; two sisters, Mrs. Jacob Tyson of Leola, PA and Mrs. Newton Butts of 630 Edmonston DR, Rockville, and five grandchildren.

Mary Offutt Butts, 93, passed away at Friends Nursing Home, Sandy Spring, MD, on Monday, September 5, 2016.
Mary was born on August 26, 1923, on a small dairy farm in Poolesville, MD. She lived most of her life in Rockville, MD, where she met her husband, Newton F. Butts.
She worked for the Montgomery County Government during WWII and later retired after 25 years of service as a Special Education Teacher Assistant with Montgomery County Public Schools.
She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Gartner (Barry), Germantown, MD; two sons, Phillip A. Wunder, San Diego, CA, and Eugene Wunder (Gail), Springfield, MO; and four grandchildren, Phillip Andrew Wunder II, Mary Renee Wunder, James Phillip Wunder and Anna Wunder.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Newton F. Butts; her parents, Clarence Colomore Offutt and Lucile Clements Offutt; her sister, Helen B. Tyson; two brothers, Clarence Colomore Offutt Jr. and Leonard Jerome Offutt; and her beloved daughter-in-law, Rosemary Robertson Wunder.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, September 12, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 18230 Barnesville Road, Barnesville, MD.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to Montgomery Hospice, 1355 Piccard Drive, #100, Rockville, MD 20850.
