    Burland, admltted to the Connecticut Bar in 1918, after being graduated from Georgetown, enlisted in the U. S. Navy that year. Later, he returned to New Haven, where he was connected with the claim department of the Travelers Insurance Company, a post he held until 1929 when he resigned to devote himself to his private practice. He had also served as corporation counsel for the city at one time.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Alice Burland; his sister, Marie Loretta Tallon; and his three sons, William H. Burland, IV, and his wife Lisa, Thomas Burland and his wife Helen, and Brian Burland and his wife Johanna.

    A funeral Mass was celebrated July 12 at St. Barnabas Church. Interment was in All Saints Cemetery. The North Haven Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
