Offutt is the same person as #15766 Hattie Offutt. All I can say at present is that there is no matching Lowell birth record for an Emma, there is for a Hattie but in 1880. In the 1900 Census there is no Hattie, but there is an Emma with Marion Offutt. In further years Emma is listed as a patient in several different hospitals with ages that indicate a date of birth between 1883 and 1885 and Emma J. Offutt on September 16, 2024.

McCarty, 69, a widely known retired Lowell firefighter, died yesterday at a local nursing home. Born in Lowell, a son of the late Michael and the late Nancy (Offut (sic)) McCarty, he was educated in the local schools and was named a reserve firefighter with the City of Lowell Fire Department in 1942. During more than three decades of service with the department, he held the post of Military Substitute from Sept. 24, 1942 until his permanent assignment in 1943. Mr. McCarty was a member of the companies at Engine 3, the Ambulance the Rescue Apparatus, and was named a Fire Lieutenant on October 1, 1952, serving in that capacity until his retirement February 5, 1972. Lieut. McCarty was awarded a commendation in 1969 by the late Chief Walter Kane for his heroic action in rescuing two men from the Concord River. Mr. McCarty resided on Viola Street where he was a communicant of St. Margaret's Church for more than a quarter of a century, and held membership in the Massachusetts Permanent Fireman's Association, the Holy Name Society and the Y.M.C.A. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Vera (O'Brien) McCarty, two brothers, David J. McCarthy (sic), a retired Lowell Police Officer, and James J. McCarty of Lowell; three sisters, Mrs. Lillian McCormick, Mrs. Leighton (Inez) Gendron, both of Lowell, and Mrs. Donald (Gladys) Reynolds, of Needham; and may nieces and nephews."

Offutt was listed in the 1910 census at Lowell, Middlesex County, MA, USA, in the household of Marion Offutt on April 18, 1910.10 Emma J. Offutt died on May 13, 1967 at Gardner, Worcester County, MA, USA, at age 92.1 She was buried on May 15, 1967 at Edson Cemetery, Lowell, Middlesex County, MA, USA.1 I believe that Emma J. Offutt is the same person as #15766 Hattie Offutt. All I can say at present is that there is no matching Lowell birth record for an Emma, there is for a Hattie but in 1880. In the 1900 Census there is no Hattie, but there is an Emma with Marion Offutt. In further years Emma is listed as a patient in several different hospitals with ages that indicate a date of birth between 1883 and 1885 and Hattie Offutt on September 16, 2024.

McCarty, 69, a widely known retired Lowell firefighter, died yesterday at a local nursing home. Born in Lowell, a son of the late Michael and the late Nancy (Offut (sic)) McCarty, he was educated in the local schools and was named a reserve firefighter with the City of Lowell Fire Department in 1942. During more than three decades of service with the department, he held the post of Military Substitute from Sept. 24, 1942 until his permanent assignment in 1943. Mr. McCarty was a member of the companies at Engine 3, the Ambulance the Rescue Apparatus, and was named a Fire Lieutenant on October 1, 1952, serving in that capacity until his retirement February 5, 1972. Lieut. McCarty was awarded a commendation in 1969 by the late Chief Walter Kane for his heroic action in rescuing two men from the Concord River. Mr. McCarty resided on Viola Street where he was a communicant of St. Margaret's Church for more than a quarter of a century, and held membership in the Massachusetts Permanent Fireman's Association, the Holy Name Society and the Y.M.C.A. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Vera (O'Brien) McCarty, two brothers, David J. McCarthy (sic), a retired Lowell Police Officer, and James J. McCarty of Lowell; three sisters, Mrs. Lillian McCormick, Mrs. Leighton (Inez) Gendron, both of Lowell, and Mrs. Donald (Gladys) Reynolds, of Needham; and may nieces and nephews."
