He was married in 1867 to Laura Reeves, and has since resided constantly in New Castle, where for many years he carried on a harness shop. He was a kind and faithful husband, a tender, effectionate (sic) father, an upright citizen and an earnest Christian. He leaves a wife and seven children to mourn a loss, which to them is irreparable."

Norton was born in Athens, O., Aug. 28th, 1832, and died in New Castle, Nov. 1st, 1888. He obtained a good common school education and studied for a time in the Ohio State College in Athens. He afterwards learned the saddler's trade in Greenfleld (sic), O. Upon the breaking out of the war, he enlisted as a musician in the 61st O. V. I. and served until the band was mustered out by order of the Governor. He then enlisted for three years in the 52d O. V. I. and continued in the service for a period of nine months, when he received an honorable discharge for disability, his health having given way under the exposure incident to army life. He was married in 1867 to Laura Reeves, and has since resided constantly in New Castle, where for many years he carried on a harness shop. He was a kind and faithful husband, a tender, effectionate (sic) father, an upright citizen and an earnest Christian. He leaves a wife and seven children to mourn a loss, which to them is irreparable."

His leg was broken in two places but his condition was not thought to be critical until about two weeks ago when complications set in. He was too weak from the loss of blood to submit to an operation. He is survived by his widow, who as Miss Julia Offutt; two brothers, Will Stockdell, of Skinnersburg, and Henry Stockdell, of Georgetown; two sisters, Mrs. J. C. Fluke and Miss Sallie Stockdell, and the following nieces and nephews, Ray Fluke, Frank Fluke, Onie T. Stockdell, Greenville Stockdell, Mrs. Richard Brockman, Mrs. Clay Brockman, Mrs. Jesse Wainscott and Miss Carmen Stockdell. Funeral services will be held at the grave in the Georgetown cemetery Saturday afternoon at 2: 30 o'clock with Dr. I. M. Boswell, pastor of the Christian church, officiating.
