Andy was born Aug. 2, 1925, to Harry and Mary Whiteman Offutt in New Castle, Pa. At age 7 he became the man of the family and he, his mother and sister Barbara weathered the Depression together with the support of both sets of grandparents. He loved nature since childhood and learned as a teenager to identify nearly all of the Eastern birds by sight and sound. A family friend in Pennsylvania, Willard "Bill" Dilley, who mentored his study of ornithology, later moved west to become chief naturalist at Grand Teton Park. When the U.S. entered World War II, Andy attempted to enlist in the military at age 16. Lacking his mother's consent, he was forced to wait until he completed high school. He then joined the Navy aboard the USS Florence Nightingale. He served in both the Mediterranean, participating in the campaign in Italy and the invasion of southern France, and in the Pacific at Okinawa. When the war ended, he attended the University of Mississippi and completed his bachelor's degree in business and economics at Thiel College close to his home in Greenville, Pa. While there he met and married Mildred Moore, who shared his life for nearly 60 years. After graduation he worked as an accountant for the Pennsylvania School for the Blind and later for Knowles China.
In 1954 he joined a subsidiary of Consolidated Natural Gas Co., as a tax accountant, and worked in various parts of the company for 30 years, retiring as chief financial officer and senior vice-president in 1984. He also served as a member of Consolidated's board of directors for seven years. During the same period he was a trustee of Thiel College and worked with Boy Scouts of America, serving a term as president of the West Virginia Council of Boy Scouts. Fishing, fly-tying and hunting were Andy's favorite activities. For many years, he bred, trained and exhibited hunting dogs, especially pointers and English setters. After many years of vacationing at Grand Teton and Yellowstone parks, Andy retired to the Cody area in 1984, building a house above the Shoshone River in Wapiti. He loved the mountains and wild areas of Wyoming, and enjoyed deer, birds, rabbits, coyotes and occasional moose that visited his Wapiti home." The obituary also has information regrading survivors. --Andy is survived by his wife Millie, daughters Pam (John) Goodyear of Cody, Suzanne Prouty of Truckee, Calif., and Barbara (Tom) Mathieson of Ashland, Ore., aunt Virginia Offutt of New Wilmington, Pa., numerous cousins and five grandchildren.

    "MRS. AGNES OFFUTT'S FUNERAL TODAY.
    - Was Daughter of One of Louisville's Pioneers-Formerly Lived At Bardstown-

Mrs. Agnes Offutt, who will be buried this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the First Presbyterian church, was the daughter of one of Louisville's pioneers, Capt. William Sale, a soldier of the War of 1812. with the Kentucky troops at the battle of New Orleans, and a conspicuous citizen of Jefferson county till his death in 1856, his home being on the site of the addition now known as Reservoir Park.
He left a large family of children, of whom Mrs. Offutt was the last but one to survive, Her sister, Mrs. Laura Smith, is still living and resides with her son in St. Joseph, Mo. Mrs. Offutt was twice married, her first husband being Charles J. Morton, of Shelby county, by whom she left one son, the Rev. Charles J. Morton, a Presbyterian minister and the pastor of a church in Florida.
Mrs. Offutt had just returned from a visit to him last week before her death. Some years after Mr. Morton's death she married the late John Offutt, a prominent citizen of Nelson county. and since the latter's death she has been residing at the old Offutt homestead near Bardstown until a year or more ago; when she took up her abode with her nephew, Martin Murray at his residence on Foree avenue in this city, where she died after a brief illness early Tuesday morning at the ripe old age of 78 years. She was a most estimable Christian woman and her many good deeds will long hold her in kind remembrance by all who knew her. Owing to the illness of his wife, her son will not be able to be present at the funeral." Removed the date suggested by "where she died early Tuesday morning" which would mean February 23, 1909 based on death notice printed in the same paper a few pages later that had the death as February 22nd, as well as the Mortuary Record for Jefferson County which also has the 22nd,.
