To this union six children were born, five girls and one boy; three preceded him to the other world. Three years of service for his country, 47 years service for his Savior and a life of devotion to home and friends is the record of a noble life. The funeral services were conducted from the M. Place of birth listed as Rockford, which doesn't exist according to research. It's possible that they meant Rockville, but since it is an error I've removed it. I've also removed the 1833 date as it conflicts with other data.

The surname Offreda isn't found in any other Census until 1915, and is only found in the 1920 Census once. The 1915 and 1920 Census finds are in New York and were apparently records of individuals of Italian ancestry. Matilda A. Selah E. Watson's obituary makes note that she arrived in Missouri in 1852. Virginia Hanks obitary makes note that she was born in 1850 in VA, that her family with 8 children moved to Missouri in 1852 and that her father died in St. Joseph during that move).

Offutt was born in Rockford, Maryland, 1833. When quite young he moved with his parents to the District of Columbia, 8 miles from Washington city, where he grew to manhood. He then came to Missouri where he lived until 1857 when he came to Kansas where he had lived until last April when he went to North Dakota to live. He was there but a few months when he died on Thursday evening, September 13, at Richardson, N. D. He was united in marriage to Miss Lovina Dorland. To this union six children were born, five girls and one boy; three preceded him to the other world. He served in the war of the rebellion three years, on month, 20 days, was mustered out March 25, 1865, He was converted and joined the M. E. church 47 years ago and has been devoted to the cause of his Lord all these years. He leaves a companion, three daughters, two brothers, four sisters, 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Three years of service for his country, 47 years service for his Savior and a life of devotion to home and friends is the record of a noble life. The funeral services were conducted from the M. E. church in Hiawatha, by J. B. Vernon, of Seneca, at 10 a. m. on Monday, Sept. 17. The members of the G. A. R. post attended in a body and took charge of the service at the grave. Beautiful music was rendered by the quartet.” Year of birth removed based on the 1900 Census, as well as his grave marker and other information. Place of birth listed as Rockford, which doesn't exist according to research. It's possible that they meant Rockville, but since it is an error I've removed it.

Deceased passed her 74th birthday just a short time before her death. Mrs. Offutt was at one time a resident of Morrill and is survived here by two grandchildren, Mrs. R. B. Myers and Miss Vivian Hammond. The husband passed away at Hiawatha. where the family located after leaving here. Mrs. Offutt continued to make that place her home till recently when she went to live with a daughter, Mrs. W. N. Beckett, at St. Joseph. A few days prior to her death she had gone to North Dakota to visit Mrs. Slossom when she was overtaken by illness and soon passed away. Mr. and Mrs. Offutt were pioneer of Kansas, coming to the state in 1857 when they settled on a farm near White Cloud. Both often related many thrilling experiences they had had in the early days with Indians, bands of whom frequently visited their home in search of plunder. The body of Mrs. Offett was brought for burial to Hiawatha, where the funeral service took place Sunday afternoon."
