According to N.O.C. Vol 5 page 85; George Offutt was wounded at Port Gibson, captured at Vicksburg, and imprisoned until the end of the war. He and his wife moved to Kansas and California.

Probably a Confederate Civil War veteran. The Battle at Port Gibson was one of a series that took place during the campaign to capture Vicksburg. Vicksburg was under attack by the Union Army from Autumn of 1862 through 4 Jul 1863 when it fell. Battle at Port Gibson after 30 Apr 1863, before 1 May 1863.

Believe after looking at Missouri information again that this George W. Offutt is in fact the George W. Offutt who served as a member of the 6th Missouri Infantry under Capt. Clark in Company G. He apparently also was a member of the Missouri State Guards 1st Rifles. Research in the National Archives Branch Library in Kansas City, MO found an index card in Microfilm M380 Roll #11 for George W. Offutt, a private in the 6th MO Infantry. Also found were two cards in the microfilmed records of the Missouri Adj. General.
