She was kind-hearted, generous, noble impulses, and was always ready and eager to be of service, or do others a kindness or favor. As a member of the Presbyterian church, she was loyal and devoted. Besides her husband, Dr. G. Tennent, she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Virgil Ogden Ward, wife of Captain D. T. Ward of Franklinton, N. C. We sympathize with the bereaved in the loss they have sustained. The funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 10:30 at the family residence, conducted by Dr. J. H. Patton."

     Asa Payne was born on March 19, 1788 at Scott County, KY, USA.1,2 He Was an aide to his father during the Northern Campaign of the War of 1812. Was offered an appointment to West Point, but resigned in 1810 to take a clerkship offered by President Madison. At least one additional child. Genealogies of Kentucky Families O-Y, pg. 84 indicates that Asa had a second wife, Mrs. Offutt, who was Sallie Vance.3 He married Theodosia Turner in 1811.4 Asa Payne was Farmer.

    It was the second marriage for her husband, a prominent Baltimore county lawyer, whose first wife, the former Miss Comfort M. W. Cockey, died in 1916. Offutt, of the Orphans Court of Baltimore County, died suddenly Saturday morning at his residence, Mount Welcome, near Granite, in the second district. Judge Offutt had been suffering-several weeks with rheumatism. but nothing serious was apprehended. He was in his usual good spirits Friday night, and conversed with his family until a Iate hour. During the night he awoke and talked to his wife, but did not complain of anything unusual. About 6 o'clock in the morning Mrs. Offutt discovered that her beloved husband had died during the night. Dr. Offutt, his brother-in-law, is of opinion that the rheumatism with which Mr. Offutt had suffered had attacked his heart and had caused sudden death. Judge Offutt was in his fifty-fifth year and was a son of the late Lemuel Offutt. He was born and raised in the neighborhood in which he died. Judge Offutt was a farmer and at one time was a justice of the peace. In 1891 he was elected one of the judges of the Orphans' Court and was serving the last year of his term of four years. He was a candidate for reelection. His first wife was Miss Hewett, a daughter of Dr. Hewett, of Howard county. His second wife was Miss Elizabeth Frances Cockey. Daughter of the late Judge Cockey, who was for many years judge of the Orphans' Court for Baltimore county. Mr. Offutt left six children. These are Lemuel D. Offutt, Mrs. Frances S. Kemp, Dell H. Offutt, Mrs. Wm. A. Ridgely, J. Fred. Offutt and Dorsey W. Offutt. Milton W. Offutt, of Towson, is his nephew.

Offutt, of the Orphans Court of Baltimore County, died suddenly Saturday morning at his residence, Mount Welcome, near Granite, in the second district. Judge Offutt had been suffering-several weeks with rheumatism. but nothing serious was apprehended. He was in his usual good spirits Friday night, and conversed with his family until a Iate hour. During the night he awoke and talked to his wife, but did not complain of anything unusual. About 6 o'clock in the morning Mrs. Offutt discovered that her beloved husband had died during the night. Dr. Offutt, his brother-in-law, is of opinion that the rheumatism with which Mr. Offutt had suffered had attacked his heart and had caused sudden death. Judge Offutt was in his fifty-fifth year and was a son of the late Lemuel Offutt. He was born and raised in the neighborhood in which he died. Judge Offutt was a farmer and at one time was a justice of the peace. In 1891 he was elected one of the judges of the Orphans' Court and was serving the last year of his term of four years. He was a candidate for reelection. His first wife was Miss Hewett, a daughter of Dr. Hewett, of Howard county. His second wife was Miss Elizabeth Frances Cockey. Daughter of the late Judge Cockey, who was for many years judge of the Orphans' Court for Baltimore county. Mr. Offutt left six children. These are Lemuel D. Offutt, Mrs. Frances S. Kemp, Dell H. Offutt, Mrs. Wm. A. Ridgely, J. Fred. Offutt and Dorsey W. Offutt. Milton W. Offutt, of Towson, is his nephew.
