     Samuel Downing Jr. was born.1 He was named as an heir of Amanda P. Downing, represented by Samuel Downing as guardian, for the probate of the estate of Sabret Offutt on October 6, 1853 at Chicot County, AR, USA.2 Samuel Downing Jr. received one fourth of $4,037.04 from the sale of the Arkansas property of Sabret Offutt on October 29, 1858 at Chicot County, AR, USA, due to him as an heir of Amanda P. Downing.3

A Petition submitted by Joel J. Offutt, for himself as executor and for heirs of Sabret Offutt to sell the estate of Sabret Offutt. Heirs are listed as George W. Offutt; Alfred H. Offutt; Emaline Offutt; Benjamin F. Offutt; Darwin J. Offutt; Joel J. Offutt Trustee of John R. Offutt; Samuel Downing; Sabret Downing; Mary Downing and Alfred Downing. The property lines are described but in summation there was approximatelty 570 acres of land. Among the property listed are 34 slaves, 20 horses and colts, 30 head of cattle, 60 head of hogs and sundry property used on the plantation. The proceeds were to be divided as follows, one fifth to Joel J. Offutt; the remaining to be equally divided between his other (Sabret's) children share and share alike: George W. Offutt, Alfred H. Offutt, Amanda P. Downing; Emeline Offutt, Benjamin Offutt, Darwin J. Offutt and John R. Offutt. The share of the latter to be held in trust by said Joel J. for him. Goes on to state that since the death of Sabret Offutt Amanda P. Downing had died, leaving four children, the said Samuel, Alfred, Sabret and Mary Downing who are minors, represented by said Samuel Downing as their guardian. Petition was granted and entered into record October 8, 1853.
