The cousins, who attended Gaithersburg High School, were both members of the National Guard and entered active service with the Army when the Guard was activated in February, 1940. They took part in the invasion of France with the 29th Division. Sergt. Russell Offutt received a shrapnel wound during the invasion, but was soon returned to his company. According to his family he again back in active service following his second wound. He is the son of Walter Offutt of Gaithersburg. His wife lives with a sister, Mrs. Margaret King, also of Gaithersburg. Sergt. Elmer Offutt is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer O. Offutt, Gaithersburg." Roy Rorex officiating at the ceremony in the presence of the immediate families and a few close friends. Richard Offutt Sr., and her daughter, Jean Bolding, both of Franklin; her son, Richard Offutt Jr. and his wife Karen, both of Devon, England; her sister, Eloise Hocutt of Raleigh, N.C.; granddaughter, Michelle Sherwood; and grandsons, Christopher Bolding, Lucas Offutt, John W. Offutt; Christopher Offutt and Scott Offutt. A funeral service will be held today at 4 p.m. at the Williamson Memorial Funeral Home.
