Kelly as “one of the finest types of the old time country physician.” Died today in the Howard A. Kelly Sanatorium. He came to Baltimore some days ago suffering from a malady of the liver. Dr. Kelly operated, but Dr. Offutt was unable to recuperate. According to Dr. Kelly, Dr. Offutt had devoted his life to the people of a large territory around Capon Bridge, having practiced there for years. He is described by Dr. Kelly as having united in himself all the virtues and forgetfulness of self associated with the country doctor. He was a bachelor, graduated from the University of Maryland in 1887 and immediately went to West Virginia. One of his sisters kept house for him and he was well known, says Dr. Kelly, throughout the rural sections in which he moved. He was 65 years old."

He was son of the late Dr. John Samuel Offutt, of Hampshire county, W. Va., and for many years had an extensive practice in the eastern panhandle of the State. He was unmarried. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Kackley and Mrs. J. M. Ward, Capon Bridge. and Mrs. Gertrude Cooper, Kansas, and one brother, William Offutt, Portland, Oregon." It should be noted that the age was incorrect, and the name of his father, and sister Mrs. Margaret Kackley are incorrect as well.
