Mr. Offutt had been suffering with asthma for some time past, but his condition was not regarded at all serious, and when he retired to bed last night was in excellent health. “He failed to put in an appearance for breakfast this morning, and, becoming alarmed, one of the members of Dr. Offutt’s family went to arouse him. His lifeless body was found in bed, and although an effort was made to resuscitate him, the vital spark had no doubt fled several hours before as he calmly slept. Death was due to heart failure. “Mr. Offutt was 66 years of age and was never married. During the Civil War he served in the Confederate Army. He retired from active life some years ago and had since made his home with his nephew, Dr. Offutt. He leaves one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Nixon, of Rockland, Indiana. “.

It is surprising what love they have for one another. The deceased was much liked by those who knew him best. He was never married. At the close of the war he claimed Missouri for his home and returned with them to their homes. There be made the acquaintance of Jesse James and Frank and they wore as true friends as he ever had. F, Sheets' Cavalry, died at the home of his, nephew Dr. J. S. Offutt, on July 20, 1902. aged 66 years, and was buried on Sunday at the Chapel, two miles South of Capon Bridge. A large concourse of friends and relatives attended his funeral. The pall-bearers being his old comrades. Dr. Gardner made some very touching remarks to the old Confederates that they were passing off one by one, which brought tears to the old comrades’ eyes. It is surprising what love they have for one another. The deceased was much liked by those who knew him best. He was never married. At the close of the war he claimed Missouri for his home and returned with them to their homes. There be made the acquaintance of Jesse James and Frank and they wore as true friends as he ever had. He traveled in most of the western states since the Civil War and was a man of such wonderful information, that even children liked to hear him tell of his travels.”.

Va., says; “Mr. Jonathan Offutt, a highly respected citizen of Capon Bridge, was found dead in bed this morning at the home of his nephew, Dr. J. F. Offutt. “.
