Mr. Offutt had been suffering with asthma for some time past, but his condition was not regarded at all serious, and when he retired to bed last night was in excellent health. “He failed to put in an appearance for breakfast this morning, and, becoming alarmed, one of the members of Dr. Offutt’s family went to arouse him. His lifeless body was found in bed, and although an effort was made to resuscitate him, the vital spark had no doubt fled several hours before as he calmly slept. Death was due to heart failure. “Mr. Offutt was 66 years of age and was never married. During the Civil War he served in the Confederate Army. He retired from active life some years ago and had since made his home with his nephew, Dr. Offutt. He leaves one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Nixon, of Rockland, Indiana. “.
