Offutt, Sr., a native of Fairfax County, Virginia, and a resident of Sonoma County since 1853, died at his residence about four miles north of town on the evening of the 20th instant, in the 63d year of his age. Mr. Offutt's last illness, which was of several weeks' duration, was the result of general disability and nervous prostration, superinduced by overwork. The funeral services, which, were held in Liberty School House and conducted by Rev. E. R. Dille, were attended by a large concourse of friends. Mr. Offutt was widely known in this community and was held in very high esteem for his sterling worth and many noble qualities. His last hours were very peaceful, and he died in the communion of the Christian Church, and in hope of heaven, His family, consisting of three sons and three daughters , all grown, were with him at the last. We tender them our sympathy in their great bereavement."

Famikly Bible information would seem to agree. Or based on the obituary for Chas. Offutt who died in 1879 she pre-deceased him as the obit mentions 3 sons and 3 daughters on July 15, 2011.

    The friends of Lewis G. Offutt were surprised on Sunday to hear of his death which occurred at his home near this city at 9 o'clock P. M. Saturday. He had been quite unwell, suffering from an abscess in the ear. The doctors and the family supposed that he was improving, and it is presumed the abscess broke and caused his sudden demise.
    The deceased was born within a mile of where he died on June 29, 1855, and he alwavs resided here and was much esteemed. His funeral will take place from the Presbyterian church today at 11 A. M. under the auspices of the Good 'Templar's Lodge, of which he was an active member."
