    Russell Vaughn Offutt, age 66 of Calhoun, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Emory Clinic in Atlanta.

    Russell was born on March 21, 1950 in Gordon County to the late Ralph Offutt, Sr. and Louise Russell Hall Offutt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Offutt, Jr. He was a member of Heritage Baptist Church. Russell was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He always put family first, and lived life to the fullest. His greatest accomplishment was being “THE BEST PAPA” ever!

    He is survived by his wife, Deborah Hamrick Offutt of Calhoun; son, Erik Offutt of Calhoun; daughter, Kacee Currence and her husband John of Calhoun; step-mother, Audrey Offutt of Ringgold; four brothers, John Offutt of Chattanooga, TN, Stanley Offutt of Ringgold, GA, Victor Offutt and his wife Debbie of St. Pete, FL and Mitchell Offutt and his wife Chris of Chattanooga, TN; two sisters, Sonja Rainey of Ringgold, GA and Julie Wilson and her husband Todd; two grandchildren, Russell Kole Offutt and Ella Adelyne Offutt also survive.

    Memorial Services will be conducted on Friday, August 26th at 11 AM at Thomas Funeral Home with Dr. Bert Vaughn officiating.

    Honorary Pallbearers will be Bobby Reeves, Greg Connell, KD Wright, Emory McEntyre and Clyde McEntyre.

    The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 25th from 5 PM until 8 PM at Thomas Funeral Home.

    In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions in honor of Russell be made to the American Heart Association or Alzheimer’s Association.

The address mentioned, 219 Carter street is the address listed for Charles L. Offutt in both the 1909 and 1911 Chattanooga City Directory. I can not explain why the date doesn't match up with the Tennessee Death Record that shows a June 1911 date.

Offutt's retirement will be as of July 15, it was announced by Sergt. Jo J. Ivins, secretary of the board. The fire captain joined the fire department early in 1906 and was promoted to a captaincy in March, 1917. He resides at 3707 Provence street. Capt. Offutt is one of the few remaining old-timers of the fire department, having seen the transition from horse-drawn to motorized equipment, and enlargement of the department through annexation of suburbs. The pension board meeting was attended by Cobb Hays, Sergt. Ivins. Detective P. R. Walker. Fire Marshal H. S. Elkins and Fireman L. M. McCormick."
