He was preceeded in death by his wife, Mary Edna Offutt Slaton, on July 19, 1992. He is survived by three sisters, Evelyn Slaton, Lanna Scott, and Nora Lee Anderson, all of Madisonville; two brothers, John M. Slaton and Joseph K. Slaton, both of Madisonville and several nieces and nephews. Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home in Madisonville, with the Rev. Tondra Daugherty and the Rev. Amos Kirkwood officiating. Burial will be in Browder Cemetery in Hopkins County.

A member of the Christian faith, he was also a lifetime member of the American Legion #6 and V.F.W. 5480. He was a Kentucky Colonel. He was preceeded in death by three sisters. He is survived by his wife, Betty Offutt of Madisonville; a son Mark Offutt of Madisonville one sister, Jesse Frances Jennings of Sacremento; and three brothers, J. D. Offutt, Clint Offut, and Woodrow Offutt, all of Madisonville. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Bro. John Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Grapevine Cemetery.
