Mary Roberta Offutt was born on January 13, 1911 at Bethesda, Montgomery County, MD, USA.7,8,9,5,10,11 She was mentioned in the will of Robert Wallace Offutt on September 3, 1915 at Montgomery County, MD, USA.12 As of December 15, 1935,her married name was Young.8,13 Mary Roberta Offutt married Willie Lee Young on December 15, 1935 at Greencastle, Franklin County, PA, USA.14,13 Mary Roberta Offutt and Willie Lee Young appeared in the Sixteenth Federal Census of May 18, 1940 at Election District #1, Montgomery County, MD, USA.15 Mary Roberta Offutt and Willie Lee Young were divorced; Possible that this divorce never happened.16 Mary Roberta Offutt died on April 8, 1978 at Bethesda, Montgomery County, MD, USA, at age 67.17,10,18 She was buried on April 11, 1978 at Herman Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Bethesda, Montgomery County, MD, USA.10,17,18 She Based on the obituary from The Washington Star, it would appear that instead of a divorce and second marriage it may be that the marriage to Bergen according to Volume 6 may be an error suggested by what appears to be an error in the transcribed obituary that is supposed to have been printed in The Evening Star. For now I am leaving the marriage and additional children, but the marriage may be incorrect, and according to the obituary in The Washington Star the two Bergen children should be children of Mary Roberta's daughter Bette Gene Bergen on September 10, 2021.

"TRUCK CRUSHES THOMAS OFFUTT - State Highway Inspector Killed Near Davenport-Wheel Passes Over Chest. Thomas Offutt, 49, W928 Montgomery, was fatally injured yesterday when a gravel truck, backing toward a cement mixer on the Norris Brothers. paving contract on the Sunset highway, half a mile east of Davenport, ran into him. He died half an hour later in Dr. C. S. Bumgarner's office at Davenport, having suffered terrible internal injuries, the truck having passed over his leg and chest. Offutt was an inspector for the state highway department on the paving project and was counting cement sacks when injured. The truck, driven by Jack Hendrickson, Seattle, was backing with a load of gravel, and the driver could not see Offutt, who was on the opposite side from which the driver was observing. Offutt said he had no warning of the approaching truck. Floyd J. Underwood, county prosecuting attorney, held an official examination into the accident, and declared that no one was criminally responsible. Offutt is survived by his widow, Mrs. Anna Offutt, and one son John, of Spokane. He was a native of Tennessee. The body was brought to Spokane. Mr. Offutt had worked for the state highway department for several years. He had served 18 years as engineer for Stevens county."
