Shown as absent in the 18 Aug 1862 - 31 Dec 1862 period, with the comment that he was wounded in the Cane Hill fight. The other cards cover the period of Jan. & Feb. 1863 and Jan & Feb. 1864. Both cards show him as absent, the latter states "absent without leave since Nov. 24, 1863.

There were 7,500 Confederate Cavalry troops in this cavalry action in Northeastern & Central Missouri. When Major General Kirby Smith CSA Commanding General, Confederate Department of the West, Confederate Headquarters Shreveport, Louisiana, issued a Combined Cavalry General Order to expand the cavalry attack to Western Missouri. Union cavalry had began 300 to 500 Wagon Train shipments of Union supplies from Kansas.
