1. 1919 - age 3 when he went to Thomas' house. Was 716 B St., SW but is now Independence Avenue
2. 2138 K Street NW - Name on register at St. Marks Episcopal Church
3. 302 1st St. NE - went to Peabody School
4. 412 Seward Square
5. 405 Seward Square - neighbor was J. Edgar Hoover, their backyards met
6. 312 1st St., SE (between C & D) house was built over the Tiber Creek. Tiber Creek ran through the basement. They kept 2 sumps working to keep the creek out. Basement was bricked up but the creek still came.
7. 316 1st St. SE (lived here when he met Dorothy Offutt)
8. 323 K St, NE - lived here after marriage

According to JHT, he was going to spend $2.00 to legally get his named changed to Thomas. He had it put on record that he had been known for all his life as John Thomas and consequently, there was no need to change his name. However, Dorothy Thomas says that she has legal adoption papers for him. At this writing, she has not yet located them. (3/25/94)
Letter dated April 30, 1943 on Harry Alexander, Inc. Washington, D. C. letterhead. "To Whom It May Concern: This is to certify that John H. Thomas has worked for this Corporation since June 16, 1941 and we have always found him to be honest, dependable and of good character. - We will be in a position to release Mr. Thomas from his present duties in two (2) weeks. - Very truly yours, H. E. Spring" - Since he continued to work for Harry Alexander, Inc. until his retirement and even part-time after that, it's possible that this apparent release from work never happened. Perhaps they gave him a raise since this was only about 34 days before his second child was born, Kathleen L. Thomas.
3/31/95 - Saw copy of Birth Certificate, Baptismal Certificate, Marriage Certificate, and Record of Adoption today. Following information was contained therein. Born at 712 Wolfe St., Alexandria, VA., Ward 4, at 10:00 A.M. Physician A. B. Moore, M. D. His father was 36 and his mother was 25. His occupation was ironworker and hers was housework. # of children born to mother, including present birth - 5. # of children of this mother now living, including present birth - 4. Are parents married: yes. Full Name of Child: John Thomas Hayden.
Certificate of Baptism: John Hayden Thomas, baptized 11/16/1940 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Washington, D. C. by Rev. Martin W. Hyland. His godfather was Maurice V. Galleher. His father: Benjamin Thomas; his mother, Elizabeth A. Thomas.
Marriage Certificate: Dorothy Marie Offutt, John Hayden Thomas, November 21, 1940. At St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Washington, D. C. by Rev. Edward J. Stokes SJ, Off.
Adoption finalized on Jan. 4, 1943. Says he is married to Dorothy Offutt Hayden. Also makes him heir to Benjamin and Elizabeth Thomas' estate. Cost $10.00.
