Margaret Lorraine Smith, #123 - new text file

Lorraine was involved in dancing classes at a young age. There
are numerous pictures of her in various costumes that Grace made
for her. A card from her to Dorothy when Dorothy's second
daughter was born reads: "Dear Dotty: I have just called your
home, only to find that your newcomer had already arrived. You
have no idea how relieved I am. I have been worrying about you a
lot during this awful hot weather, saying I was going to call you
every day, but you know how time goes by. Well, your Mother just
called me back to tell me all about you and the baby. Well,
girls certainly do run with us, don't they? And they are nice,
too. I am going to try to see you this week, but if I don't make
it, I will see you at home next week. Lovingly, Lorraine."

Per Dorothy Thomas: Lorraine was adopted from St. Ann's Infant
Home. Cora Offutt went with Grace to pick her up. They saw the
papers which indicated that Lorraine's father was adoctor. The
father and the mother also were from very prominent families;
therefore, she was put up for adoption to avoid scandel. In
fact, Cora went with Grace the first time they saw her. The
above story is what the nuns told them. Dorothy feels that
Lorraine is DEFINITELY not the biological daughter of Pete as has
been mentioned occasionally.
