Milton W. Offutt Jr. graduated from Princeton University in 1921. Received his doctorate from John Hopkins Graduate School in 1927. Served as an instructor at John Hopkins University, Instructor of History at Princeton, and from 1931 to 1961, as professor at the City College of New York. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1917 while a student in Princeton. During WW 2 he again enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and received an honorary retirement as a Lt. Commander.
