Graduated from old "Oglethorpe University" and studied law under General Robert Tooms, becoming his junior partner. He located in Elberton, GA in 1841. He was married in 1842. He entered the service of the Confederacy as an officer in 1861. He was mortally wounded June 27th, and was brevetted Brig. General, but died of his wounds the 29th of June 1862. Member of the 14th GA Regiment. Was a colonel before brevet. Member of the GA House of Rep., member of the GA Senate, elector state at large for Breckinridge 1860.
